In 2003 two filmmakers went to Niger to make a film with Damouré Zika, Moussa Hamidou and Tallou Mouzourane. The former had seen the latter in numerous films that they had made together with Jean Rouch, over a period of more than fifty years. They would now try to ‘walk in the footsteps of Jean Rouch’ and make film together with them. They were curious to learn how Rouch’s friends in Niger had experienced all these years of working with him and the cinema. Their film was going to be a survey into their collaborative methods. This film was recorded in 2003. Rouch died one year later on a desert road in Niger. At the time of the recordings he hadn’t been to Niger for two years and his friends still hoped very much for his return. They were still involved in a film project together.
